Rocky XVIII: Managing the Aortic Root: A Focused Review of Current Therapies and Controversies
This is the eighteenth in a series of surgical valve workshops sponsored by The International Heart Institute of Montana Foundation in Missoula, Montana. The two-day workshop will address issues related to repair and replacement techniques of the diseased aortic root. An interactive live teleconference format will be utilized for presentation of patient case histories, pre and post-operative findings and controversies, as well as actual surgical procedures.
Following live surgical demonstrations, formal lectures and interactive discussions, participants will attend wet lab sessions demonstrating practical aortic surgery techniques.
This course will provide a forum for open communication among cardiologists, surgeons and anesthesiologists as related to the diagnosis and treatment of aortic root disease.
Course Objectives
- Discuss the issues and limitations of evaluation of aortic root disease.
- Discuss optimal imaging of the aortic root in preparation for surgery.
- Discuss the available alternatives for managing different forms of aortic root disease.
- Contrast the different approaches to treatment of aortic valve and aortic root disease.
- Demonstrate, in an isolated pig heart, aortic root replacement techniques.
