Course Description
This is the twentieth in a series of surgical workshops sponsored by the International Heart Institute of Montana Foundation. The two and one-half day workshop will address issues related to imaging heart valves and different treatment alternatives for heart valves. The conference will look specifically at mitral valve and aortic valve new technologies in treatment. An interactive live teleconference format will be utilized for presentation of patient case histories, pre and post-operative diagnostic findings, as well as actual surgical procedures.
Following live surgical demonstrations, formal lectures and interactive discussions, participants will attend wet lab sessions demonstrating valvular repair and implantation techniques.
This course will provide a forum for open communication among interventional and non-interventional cardiologists, surgeons and anesthesiologists as related to the diagnosis and treatment of heart valve disease.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
- Discuss the issues and limitations in the treatment of valvular heart disease.
- Discuss newer cardiac imaging techniques to optimize treatment outcomes.
- Discuss the technological options to treating valvular heart disease.
- Contrast the technological approaches to treating valvular heart disease
- Demonstrate, in an isolated pig heart, minimally invasive access and approaches to treating valvular heart disease.
- Discuss the issues and limitations of collaboration and new approaches in the treatment of valvular heart disease.
